Check out my adventures with these motorcycles! Click on a bike and you can see where I have been, what I have done and my overall opinion of the machines!
Moonie Review Guide:
On each page, from my ownership of these motorcycles, I will try to give my unbiased opinions on owning these fine machines. I may not be up on details from MCNews or as awesome as Al or Chris from 44 Teeth, but I have some words of wisdom from the real world ownership side of these machines. Pants down, we will do some deep dives. Each section will have a score 1 through 5 (total 20 outside of the optional section), I sectioned the details as the following:
Reliability:
This section will look at the overall running performance and the likelihood the vehicle has left me stranded or problematic on trips. A high score dictates that I would have no problem hopping on the vehicle and go on a road trip with little to no preparation. A low score would indicate that the vehicle has left me stranded or I would potentially doubt the vehicle’s ability to be a daily rider.
Fun Factor:
This section will look at how fun the bike is. For me, a ‘fun’ vehicle is something that is exciting or how it stands out. A lightweight vehicle with a high power to weight ratio makes the bike exhilarating or if the bike has unique capabilities that are not a ‘cookie cutter’ vehicle amongst the rest. A high score, would indicate the vehicle stands out amongst the competition and that there is a thrill behind riding the bike. If there were multiple bikes in the garage, I’d be more inclined to ride that bike over the other choices. A low score would indicate that there are other options in the garage I would lunge for the keys for and potentially choose over riding than this vehicle.
Part Support:
This section covers the options out there available for this vehicle. This includes having the need to order speciality tools, to cracking open the valve cover for valve checks, oil change protocol, to changes to the fueling system; what all can be performed in an ‘average’ home with tools. A high score indicates that getting OEM parts and aftermarket options are quite easy to obtain. Whether that is online or in an autopart store, etc. A low score would indicate that the parts are scarce and rather difficult to find. Meaning that you might need to comb forums and refresh ebay on the daily to find anything.
Home Improvements (self-care work):
This section will explain about how easy the vehicle is to work on at home. A high score would indicate that the vehicle is easy for self work, and most (if not all) upkeep and maintenance items can be performed at home. A low score would indicate, best to leave it to the professionals and there might be some excessive (and expensive) special tools one will need in their home garage to tackle the maintenance of their vehicles should they choose to.
Adaptability (Optional Score):
For this section, we will touch on what I have seen and used of the vehicles and how well they can be a Swiss army knife; having more than one use. A high score would indicate that the vehicle can definitely be used and can utilize multiple functions. A low score will indicate that the vehicle is designed and honed for one particular use. Not a negative score against the overall picture, but there are vehicles that could serve multiple purposes being the only vehicle in the garage.
Repurchase Validation?
The final straw; given my short/long term ownership of the vehicle, would I recommend buying it and/or would I myself purchase it again? We’ll tally up the votes and see what is worth purchasing!
Eye Candy Competition!
While shopping, what’s to be also considered for these vehicles? There are so many options out there, and everyone has their own charisma and personal opinions out there. Definitely some contendors to consider when in the market or you are looking at these models!
