2010 KTM 690 SMC Project

A Blue 690?!

Welcome to the transformation process of a 2010 KTM 690 SMC here in the States!

Talk about a project...

This project started off with me wanting to change up the KTM orange to a more cool tone; blue.  After reading countless KTM projects online, I decided to strip the bike down to the frame and get every silver engine component powder coated.  Due to the lack of SMC's imported into the USA after 2010, all the 08/09/10 models all have the boring silver swingarm, engine mounts, triple tree clamps, etc etc.

Issues that have come up during this project:

-Powder Coated Parts. As awesome as the powder coating came out, there was a good amount on the bearing holes, bolt threads, axle/caliper sliding areas, etc. Took some sanding and thread cutting tools; as well as some thread taps, to really clean up everything.
-Fuel Filter Relocation. On the 690 series, they have the fuel filter located inside the fuel tank, which is a pain in the ass to get to, and usually makes a big mess when the tank is mounted on the bike.  To make things easier, I went ahead and relocated the fuel filter outside of the gas tank. Weirdly enough, the fuel pump used a 5/16" fuel line, and the fuel line that went into the fuel injector was 1/4". So to connect these, I needed to create a 5/16" | 1/4" union connector. I used metal as this section of fuel line is submerged in the gas tank.  I ended up using a Napa Gold Fuel 3095 Filter for the external filter, as the OEM Plastic one seemed to be quite ineffective.
-Hyena Motorcycle Graphics. Not sure if the company has issues with their graphics, but every single component has/had issues adhering to the plastics. I sent the company a message on the purchase, but for the amount of money to a company that specializes in graphics, a bit disappointing. I actual have a few of their company decals on my beer mini fridge, and even those are having issues sticking to the door. The actual graphic component of the decals are quite nice, but the adhesive/practical side of these decals are bad. Like really bad. So to counter this, I went back to an old company that I originally got decals from: Crispy Designs. From the past experience, their graphics adhere perfectly on the KTM graphics, and look almost factory designed. Definitely looking forward to the next design from them!
-Rally Raid Bolts. Most of the Rally Raid products have been great in the past, but doing the Subframe bolts this time was interesting. I had to replace the kit's bolts with some longer bolts from the local hardware store, as the threads seemed too short to be effective for the longevity of the Supermoto.
